Hey guys, This is my first article for the site and I intend to do a number over the next few weeks, primarily on heads up play, as well as maybe some math content, but I thought I would start out with an MTT strategy article to coincide with the release of part 2 of my current video series (video #106).

  • I agree .. accumulating a decent stack early is key to playing online tournaments. In live deep stack tournaments where you may get 200+ big blinds you don't really need to gamble early on. You just have to wait till a weak player makes a really big mistake. And trust me when i say they make a lot of mistakes!

  • Great article! I always thought that TAG play was the way to go but then I depend alot on getting good cards which isn't always the case. Many times I'm card dead and that makes it so difficult to play TAG play, I just run out of chips or my stack was just a drop in the ocean compared to the other players stacks when getting to the mid or late stages in the game. That's why getting to the final table is so difficult. I'm definitely trying this strategy. Thanks!!

  • I agree too, So many times I lose a 70-80%/30-20% hand and then the cards go dead and it feels like the whole table knows you can't win a flip and are going to wait for another. So I tighten up and begin the slow death spiral waiting to see which med-big stack early picks me off with a lite call. I hate it. So I like this and you thougts in the video on survival by picking on same stack players in good situations. Thanks much!

  • Why not take advantage while you know others are playing tight, it's almost like when your playing bubble. A lot of people tighten up so they can make it in the money.
