Stuck

November 16, 2011, 3:50 pm

Hey guys, hope everyone is doing well.

Since my last post I moved back down to 10nl after withdrawing $150 and my new BR was $180.  Played 10nl and won at about 12bb/100, which is actually my sustained winrate over ~50k hands at 10nl, and soon had the roll to move up with $350.  Sadly, I still can't seem to break through the wall that is 25nl.

I have lost at least 1k playing 25nl across merge and bodog, probably a little closer to 1.1k.  This is in at most 50-60k hands.  I'm not sure if I am just being owned or running bad.  I used to always think I was running bad but now since this loss rate is so sustained, I'm thinking it's something wrong with my game.  I'm just not sure what I could be doing that has me crushing 10nl but being a huge loser at 25nl.

Kind of at a crossroads at this point: I'm losing interest in cash games fast as I don't have the patience to go back down to 10nl and work my way up again for the sixth time, and the third time in two months.  Might just take my roll and switch to SnGs since emitnulb says that the DoNs on bodog are super profitable (not surprising) and then switch back to 25nl with $500 roll so variance isn't so painful.

BR is $323.5 (Bodog has been running a lot of micro promotions lately resulting in decent rakeback which has kept my roll around the move up mark but I am still losing pretty badly at 25nl).

gl at the tables!

  • Wow, sick results emit. I'll hit you up with any questions for sure.

  • My Bodog name is g0dly12345. Plug that into sharkscope if you want to check out my DoN results. There's a pretty obvious spot where I switched from the low stakes to the high stakes games lol. I had to figure the games out again after I played only cash for like 6 months, plus the style you need to win at the higher stakes games is totally different. If you start playing them you can post questions in the forums and I'll try to help you out. I would suggest you only play the turbos too because there is literally like 2 games per day of the regular speed games at the higher stakes while you can pretty much find turbos running 10 hours a day.

  • Yeah I doubt it's just variance losing that much at 25nl... but perhaps it's a mental block that has you changing your game and being more conservative when you move up. It's definitely tough to get used to an increased buy-in. The key is having a solid bankroll and not being concerned at all about losing a few buyins and sticking to the same game that was crushing 10nl.
