9Ts otb in multiway pot

Postby IAMINARUTT » Thu Apr 15, 2010 4:27 pm

Is cold calling the right move here with 9Ts? My opponents were both pretty loose 39:12 and 29:0 VPIP:PFR.

UTG ($12.15)
MP ($14.60)
CO ($6)
Hero (Button) ($17.30)
SB ($6.80)
BB ($1.50)

Preflop: Hero is Button with 9Image, 10Image
1 fold, MP bets $0.50, CO (poster) calls $0.40, Hero calls $0.50, 1 fold, BB calls $0.40

Flop: ($2.05) QImage, 7Image, 10Image (4 players)
BB checks, MP bets $0.70, CO raises to $1.40, Hero folds, 1 fold, MP calls $0.70

Turn: ($4.85) 5Image (2 players)
MP checks, CO bets $2, MP calls $2

River: ($8.85) 2Image (2 players)
MP checks, CO checks

Results:
MP had QImage, KImage (one pair, Queens).
CO had QImage, KImage (one pair, Queens).
Outcome: MP won $4.25, CO won $4.20

several things to consider in a situation like this
stack size
original raiser more than a full stack-good, can get paid off if hit flop hard
first cold caller- partial stack- not good- less potential to get pid off

2 others in pot- neutral to not good- more players in pot increase chance to get paid off when you make big hand
but more than one player makes harder to win pot with meduim strength hand, 2 other players in hand kind of worst of both worlds
i would prefer more players or only 1 player- ps i would rathe raise vs 1 player to make sure i get heads up in position vs loose player

hero on button-good, definite fold most times if in blinds vs 2 players

no info on players postflop style- again this can be conflicting desire-
aggr postflop player increases chances to get paid off when hit, but can lose a lot chasing drawing type hands or medium strength hand
passive postflop player-decreases chance at big payoff, but increases chance to get to showdown with medium strength hand or to make drawing hand relatively cheap if they dont bet to charge you to draw
my preference is an aggro player in ep with passive player between you and aggro, this can create a bigger pot and better draw odds when aggr bets, passive calls then you can decide if situation looks profitable

loose preflop players not the best to be in w this type hand, they could have kt,qt,jt,A9,K9,Q9, TYPE HANDS AND HAVE YOU IN BAD SHAPE
or a random big hand or rubbish- difficult to know where you are at vs looseies
tight players in hand easier to read their range, so easier to have clear idea if you are ahead or behind - so u cam max win or minimize loss much easier vs tighties
2 loosish players- not good

also another thing to consider is the players in blinds, a raise and 2 cold calls creates an excellent squeeze opportunity for an aggro player in blinds that recogizes 2 loose players in ep and a tight(presumeably you are) player in position didnt reraise so has a mediocre hand begging to be squeezed out, which could add another negative to this situation

so with all that being said i generally prefer a fold in the situation in this hand
too many less than good factors with stack size, players styles, number of players

hope this helps
