a hand from today

***** Hand History for Game 2065526238 ***** (Bodog)
$100.00 USD NL Texas Hold'em - Thursday, December 23, 12:17:37 ET 2010
Table Danuska (max 6) (Real Money)
Seat 2 is the button
Seat 1: lotj ( $54.00 USD )
Seat 2: Apucika ( $149.55 USD )
Seat 3: pokeher723 ( $102.34 USD )
Seat 4: Juudas666 ( $103.00 USD )
Seat 5: hockeyguy99 ( $117.57 USD )
Seat 6: Dark__Knight ( $95.65 USD )
pokeher723 posts small blind [$0.50 USD].
Juudas666 posts big blind [$1.00 USD].
** Dealing down cards **
Dealt to hockeyguy99 [ 6h 6c ]
hockeyguy99 raises [$3.50 USD] standard pfr
Dark__Knight calls [$3.50 USD] fyi 35/25/8 preflop guy
lotj folds
Apucika calls [$3.50 USD]
pokeher723 calls [$3.00 USD]
Juudas666 calls [$2.50 USD]
** Dealing Flop ** [ 6s, 7c, Td ] at first glance a good flop, but then it occurs to me thaat w/ 4 callers middle pairs are right in the range of all of them
pokeher723 checks
Juudas666 checks
hockeyguy99 bets [$20.00 USD] lets see where we are at, i am thinking i get called by a set, 89, 67,Tx, maybe a 78 pr w/ a gutshot, possible JJ or QQ, but cheap cards
Dark__Knight calls [$20.00 USD] snap call, little devil on my shoulde says 77 or TT, maybe 89 but for some reason players tend to think then call with the absolute nuts- the Atta33 read that they thinking about how to play it. Do i raise, how much? do i call and hope others come along blah blah blah, players are more used to flopping and slowplaying sets so snap call
Apucika folds
pokeher723 folds
Juudas666 folds
** Dealing Turn ** [ 9s ] yuck, not sure what worse hand calls, crap what to do?
hockeyguy99 checks
Dark__Knight checks
** Dealing River ** [ 9c ] ok good at least i beat straights again, but still dead to a 7 or T. The little man is screaming check call, or small bet and fold to push, some how my finger ignores my brain and bets enough to make my brain think i am committed
hockeyguy99 bets [$30.00 USD] i think 15 or 20 is way better than 30 to let straights call, the running 99 doesnt really help a big overpair except vs 67
Dark__Knight raises [$72.15 USD] instapush
hockeyguy99 calls [$42.15 USD] where the Fudge is the fold button?
hockeyguy99 shows [6h, 6c ]
Dark__Knight shows [Tc, Th ]
Dark__Knight shows [Tc, Th ]
hockeyguy99 shows [6h, 6c ]
Dark__Knight wins $198.80 USD from main pot

long story short i think the river check call is best play as i will get value when a straight bets, i will lose less when i am out boated, if i check and he shoves it is a tough spot, but i think most times he makes a 1/2 pot bet to not lose his customer w/ a straight or full house

It is a bit of a cooler, but that doesnt mean i should stop thinking
i would be curious on anyone's thoughts

thanks hg
and merry christmas to all

Definitely a tough spot and I think you analyzed it perfectly. I can't ever fault someone for *not* laying down a full house. But in analyzing it fully I think you're right that river is a check-call or check-fold instead of a bet-call given that you have the worst full house. I'd probably check-call as opposed to check-fold since he may value bet a straight or just a random bluff.

It's always harder to make the correct play while you're playing... but given some time afterwards to analyze the situation it usually becomes clear. This is a great example.

I tottaly agree, i think going through HH for tough spots has helped me alot. It gives you more time to think about all the factors with no time or money pressure. Sometimes you run into the same situation again, but many times you kind of use the analysis logic almost unconsciencously to make better decisions in the future. I think most learning players dont do this enough away from the tables.
