In stats programs, what's the difference between a players four bet percentage and 4 bet range?

4bet percentage is the percentage of times a player will 4bet when they are facing a 3bet of their raise.

The 4bet range is the percentage of overall hands they're 4betting with. It is calculated by multiplaying your Pre-flop Raise % (PFR) * 4bet %.

Of course the 4bet range is slightly flawed because your PFR% varies with position and action ahead of you. It should be segmented by position and use the Raise 1st % but that stat doesn't exist.

Should that be pfr % / 4 bet %?

The PFR% * 4bet% is the right calculation for 4bet range.

If I open-raise 20% of hands, and my 4bet% is 15%, then my 4bet range is going to be 20% * 15% = 3%. So I'm 4betting 3% of hands.

If I plug 3% into Pokerstove, I can see that it equals a range of 99+, AKs.

In theory, people who 4bet with a 3% range are probably removing 99 and TT from their range, and adding AKo to their 4bet range, making their 4bet range QQ+, AKs, AKo - also 3% of hands.
