Burned Cards online poker?

Postby colfarrell » Fri Apr 01, 2011 11:11 am

Hey All,

Ok this is a wafer thin topic but just something that has been on my mind for ages and I thought I'd throw it out here out of interest..

How do we know that the online software burns a card on flop , turn , river.. On pokerstars and fulltilt we never see a burned card..

Ok we have no way of knowing for sure if the software (random number generator) actually calculates the flop turn and river after removing a potential card.. As an ex software Engineer I know this is very easy to do in the programming, but as players we currently have no way of been sure the software currently makes this calculation..

Ok maybe too much time on my hands but I am off with the flu at the moment!

I don't understand why it would be nessecary to burn a card online. The concept of burning a card is so that a player can't receive some advantage by seeing the next card in the deck while the dealer is dealing or recognize a scratch or flaw in the back of a card (either by putting it there himself or just by noticing an existing one). Neither of these situations exist in an online poker table, so why would it be nessecary?

Ahhhh so thats why there's so many more flushes and straights hit during online poker... none of the outs ever get burned! :D
