catching TP OOP

Postby buggy » Mon Jan 03, 2011 10:50 pm

Hi guys,

I really need some help on this type of situation. (this happens to me a lot).

Full Tilt, $0.05/$0.10 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 8 Players
LeggoPoker.com - Hand History Converter

BTN: $7.26
SB: $10
Hero (BB): $11.69
UTG: $10.40
UTG+1: $10.24
MP1: $9.24
MP2: $7.24
CO: $17.03

Pre-Flop: T K dealt to Hero (BB)
3 folds, MP2 calls $0.10, CO calls $0.10, 2 folds, Hero checks

Flop: ($0.35) 6 9 K (3 Players)
Hero checks, MP2 bets $0.20, CO calls $0.20, Hero calls $0.20

Turn: ($0.95) 2 (3 Players)
Hero checks, MP2 bets $0.70, CO folds, Hero calls $0.70

River: ($2.35) 7 (2 Players)
Hero checks, MP2 bets $2, Hero calls $2

Results: $6.35 Pot ($0.42 Rake)
Hero mucked T K and LOST (-$2.90 NET)
MP2 showed 7 K and WON $5.93 (+$2.93 NET)

Should I just be letting these go from the flop? I know with the draw out there, my opponents (and the villan plays almost any two suited cards) will call down on it.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

this is a clear case where you you need to be more aggressive

PREFLOP
opportunity 1- my preferred play
squeeze preflop to 0.90 to end the hand and/or get heads up
KT oop multiway is tough to play, much easier heads up as the aggressor
you will be amazed how many times they all just fold preflop
if you see a flop you have a playable hand, these players call with
all kinds of crap, not just AK KQ that would have you dominated

POSTFLOP
opportunity 2- my next favorite play
Donk bet the pot to seperate hands from non hands, if you get raised you are typically beat and can fold
the last thing you want is checked around and have Ace hit or a raggy 2 pair
that you could never put someone on

opportunity 3- my next favorite play
Check raise the pot,
I dont love this with a bet and 2 callers
but what can the 2 callers have? not much
a check raise looks very strong vs the field and puts a lot of pressure on them
the guy doesnt have a big Kx since he just called after a bet and caller on flop
AK would have raised, even after a preflop limp
Ditto KQ and likely KJ
So KT very likely best
remember these guys are loose and bad
just because you don't play Krag doesnt mean they dont

POSTFLOP ON TURN
opportunity 4 + 5
i would donk 3/4 pot or full pot here or
check raise the blank
the guy doesnt have a big Kx since he just called after a bet and caller on flop
AK would have raised, even after a preflop limp
Ditto KQ and likely KJ
So KT very likely best

POSTFLOP RIVER
opportunity 6
i would donk 3/4 pot or full pot here on another apparent blank
the guy doesnt have a big Kx since he just called after a bet and caller on flop
AK would have raised, even after a preflop limp
Ditto KQ and likely KJ
So KT very likely best

I dont like a check raise here as likely only get called by better
if you get raised you can fold w/ confidence, but you will always get called by Kx
and since you will best best more times than not here, a lead bet will be profitable in the long run

Now, on this particular hand he sucked out which is unfortunate
but postflop you were about a 85% favorite or 7/1 vs his hand
so all the value you get betting and raising the 7 times you win
will be way more than the 1 time he sucks out in the long run
Occaisionally you will run into KQ AK KJ, but that just gives you a
rock solid read on the guy, if he ever raises you know to fold unles you have a very
big hand like top 2 pr, set etc, but if he bet when a draw scare card hits you
can be pretty sure you are beat and fold

my apologies i misread the hand a bit
only 1 caller of flop better so i like a flop check raise a bit more
but i still prefer the pot donk bet on the flop

also you mention they both like suited cards and will call down with draws. HH doesnt show suits
so a bit unclear what they may be chasing, apparently there was a 2 flush on the flop
if this is the case i am donking the pot on flop and river to charge them the max to chase
you want them to chase as a draw is 33% to hit and your top pair is going to get value value
and as long as no River Ace i would bet like 1/2 to 3/4 pot in case they caught like a Q or J or T
to make a pair they hope is good. Again if you get raised it is an easy fold w/ 1 pair ok kicker

A standard example of value betting until you get resistance ie raised. Them calling is not resistance
it is exactly what you want. If they are beat you want them to call, if you are beat they lose value
by not raising, Wheras you get more value by raising good or strong hands. that is why it is so easy to fold to a raise as you will almost never be raised light by most 10nl opponents

hope this helps

Thanks HG.

I just get so smacked around playing OOP to the point that I just want to fold every hand before the cut off.
My biggest problem is with AK while OOP.

OOP is my biggest weakness. that and getting hands to hold up :)

The student learns.... (I'm not sure why my converter won't show the suits in the forum but there were two diamonds on the flop)

Hi Buggy
i like the lead bet better than limping, but still very much prefer a pfr
KJ is ahead of range of virtually any hand that limped
if it was a loose player you are ahead by definition virtually everytime
if it was tightish player, he almost certainly limped w/ weak hand. 10nl taggish players
dont fully understand proper tag style, so they are transparent raise = strong, limp = weak
the tags will fold almost every time w/ whatever they limped, the loose players mostly fold, but sometimes call .both are fine vs your KJ. But more importantly you dont want to give random cards in the bb a free chance to outdraw you, your KJ is way ahead of 2 random cards so you must punish them to outdraw you. I would raise any 2 paint, Axs, A8o+,K8s+ for starters to get used to the more aggto style.
This allows you to take control/punish weaker hands/build the pot vs weaker hands/win dead money in pot from limper and bb.

It took me a while to get out of the "safe" habit of seeing flop before i bet, but an aggressive preflop style will win way more money and is a requirement if you want to move up and be a winning player at the next levels. It is a super important step toward adopting the Atta22 OutstandingPoker style of play.
Once you get used to raising these limping Yahoos it is almost addictive, and certainly very profitable
