Hello everyone, I was wondering how you all would deal with a donk bet in this situation:

He was a 52/0 guy and donk bet 50% of the time. I think I'm raising that flop 90% of the time , maybe folding if hes short stacked. Would you CBet shove the turn or check fold? I'm not sure what he's calling with, probably at least a pair of some sort, maybe a middle pair like 77 or something, maybe ace high, maybe a flush draw that hit.

Thoughts?

hi cud

I like to take a broader view of the situation than just this hand. What is my advantage over this opponent? Card selection and patience for starters, we know this from his stats 52%/0% tells me he plays a wide range of weak hands, Adavantage you playing 20% of hands. You pfr most hands vs his weak range building pots when you are likely ahead, advantage you. He rarely makes a pfr so you get maximum implied odds when he is ahead preflop, advantage you. You will rarely be trapped by his big hands.

Now to the Donk bet issue, he likes to Donk bet to test you or get value from his made hands. He is likely aware that you typically have big cards and miss most 9 hi flops. You know that he is going to flop a pair 33% of the time and a draw about another 10% and have a pocket pair about 6% of the time, which by no coincidence is right around 50%. If we assume from his preflop play he is the type that appears to splash around. But in reality he is likely just loose ABC player, meaning he plays too many hands, but mostly just bets when he has a hand and doesnt like to fold any hand that "might" win. Check his wtsd%. I bet it is higher than a solid taggy 24%ish.

My over all strategy vs this type is to fold in a situation like above( just naked overs that might not even be ahead), bet/raise made hands for value and semi bluff reraise something like AK that has at least a gutshot or backdoor draw to go w/ my overcards until i get caught . Then i am only raising made hands for value and just calling w/ big draws as i dont expect him to ever fold any pair which devalues a raise w/ a draw when it has no fold equity. This is has been very profitable vs this type of player, but it does take some patience as ther is no guarantee the cards will show up in a timely fashion, although typically within an hour or 90 minutes you will tyically get a good chance to get most or all of his stack.

i try not to focus too much on a specific tree and remember that in the bigger forest view i WILL beat him in the long run.

i would just fold this hand, i bet he has a piece as there is no draw so you are likely chasing 6 outs, 3 of which are totally transparent/dangerous to make him aces up. He didnt get to 52 % vpip by folding Ax so if an A hits and you get action you are likely toast. To quote Master Yoda Tim, i think i will wait for a better spot.

Too many bluff reraise violates one of the 3 basic tenets to beating micros
value bet
dont bluff
dont payoff opponent

patience and value abc poker will whoop up on his silly style of play
