Hand Reading Advice

Postby IAMINARUTT » Wed Apr 07, 2010 3:37 pm

Any idea on what SB might have been holding in this hand? He was super tight - VPIP 12% and PFR 7% (over the 70 hands).

When he checked the turn I thought I might be able to steal the pot.

Any suggestions on better ways to play the hand?

Hero (UTG) ($12.15)
MP ($10.15)
Button ($11.25)
SB ($18.65)
BB ($10.25)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with AImage, KImage
Hero bets $0.40, 2 folds, SB calls $0.35, 1 fold

Flop: ($0.90) 9Image, 7Image, JImage (2 players)
SB bets $0.60, Hero calls $0.60

Turn: ($2.10) QImage (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $1.60, SB calls $1.60

River: ($5.30) 8Image (2 players)
SB bets $16.05 (All-In), Hero folds

Results:
SB didn't show
Outcome: SB won $5.05

I'm actually check raising his donk bet as I have the nut flushdraw and 2 overs. Take back control of the hand. I'd even consider a barrel at the Q on the turn (thought its kind of thin because of the K10 having gotten there). When we dont make our hand on the river its an easy fold.

The way he played it I'd give him credit for 2 pair/straight

i would have 4x raised him on flop
2 overs and nut draw is a big fave over most other drawing hands
2 overs and nut draw is a small fave over most 1 pr hands
2 overs and nut draw has many outs vs any made hands

so i am typically prepared to get it in on the flop if i get played back at

but i dont mind a fold by villian as it could be a near coin flip, notice if they fold a pair your equity goes from about 50% vs many hands and a possible large pot to 100% of a small pot

i would call a reasonable bet on the turn, your equity is less but you did pick up more outs,
you have nut str8, nut flush draws, 13 outs, about 28% chance to hit
plus A or K could be outs, but it is about pot and implied odds, not outs, so his bet size matters. I would check behind on the turn and take a free card if he checks, what hand does the Q scare them off after they call the flop?
i would not call much on river if i missed on the river

sorry for operator error first try

i would have 4x raised him on flop

2 overs and nut draw has many outs vs any made hands

so i am typically prepared to get it in on the flop if i get played back at

i would call a reasonable bet on the turn, your equity is less but you did pick up more outs,
you have nut str8, nut flush draws, 13 outs, about 28% chance to hit
plus A or K could be outs possible 0-15% chance, but it is about pot and implied odds, not outs, so his bet size matters. I would check behind on the turn and take a free card if he checks, what hand does the Q scare them off after they call the flop? i would not call much on river if i missed on the river

this would be my most common line, but might change depending on read of villian
but in general i give tight player credit for draw. pair and draw, 2 pr, set, or other made hand when they lead at drawy flop
so my AK is very possibly behind, but i dont want to get a pushed off my outs if i bet and get raised on turn
i dont mind getting pushed of a weak hand that wasnt going to improve

as to what he had here are some possible/likely holdings
jt, kt, tt, 99,jj,77,qj, AQ, qq, bluff seems unlikely as do kk aa

Your hands change throughout your life. The lines you see in your palm today are not quite the same.I would have 4x raised him on flop. The two overs and nut draw is a big over most other drawing hands. The way he played it I'd give him credit for 2 pair or straight.
