Really depends on the opponent. If he's straightforward and doesn't get too out of line then I'd probably fold. If he's a noob who makes random raises I'd still be inclined to fold since he'd probably bet smaller if he was bluffing or blocking with Tx. If he's aggro in lots of spots then I might call, really depends on the guy. He can easily be taking a retarded line like this with 98 or a set. All you really beat is a random bluff (does he play a flush draw like this?) or a terribly played Tx. I'd say it's more likely a strong hand without any read at all.

i'de fold.. Most of the time when people check the turn and nearly pot the river it's for value. IF they start a bluf on the flop with a c/r they will usually follow trough on the turn. It just doesn't make sense for some random player to think: I c/r bluf this flop and I am going to check the turn and if you check behind I am going to bluf the river again! So if I don't have specific reads on my opponent that he does bluf in these kinds of spots (or Valuebet AT/QT/JJ) i would have to fold this hand. I think he was planning a c/r all in on the turn with his check rather then a check/fold or a check/call.. It just isnt a very bluffy line to take. So you need to have specific reads or history with your opponent to call this off.

BTW I would buy in for 100BB

Well it was interesting, I mean ya I thought he would play a flush draw like that, but maybe that comes from my experience playing heads up.
I think that if he has anything that beats me, IE a set or flopped straight, he's gonna bet the turn and what is a pretty draw heavy board.

I also think that with my flat, if he is a thinking player he will think that draws make up a big part of my range also. Thus, if he has a big hand surely he's gonna make me pay for my draw on the turn??

And then there's the river... given what I said above I thought the bet was a bit sizeable.

All this, I decided to make the call and he showed J8 no suits for a missed gutshot.

Also, I did buy in for $50 just lost a flip vs a shorty the hand before and auto-rebuy wasn't on :)

here is my 2 cents on a bit different thinking

although Matt didn't provide/have no read on your opponent. Just as Atta instantly thinks bad player when he sees a player w/ a partial stack. My first thought is to put him in the LAGGY range of opponents. In my experience at those stakes (or lower) i have seen very few Taggy players build a 6 BI stack, but i have seen Super Lags do it (and lose it just as fast) pretty frequently. Tags are just not as willing to play for stacks w/o a big hand so it is just harder/takes longer to build a 6BI stack. I have built a stack 6+ BI 's a few times, but i dont generally play sessions long enough to do so. Super Lags will get it in light on a regular basis, so they just need a couple big hands/suckouts/hot run to build a huge stack. At which point they are typically just as reckless if not more so, we have all seen them run a big stack right back down.

Given my assumption of Lag, i think he has a very wide range that he will raise the flop including Tx, pair and a gutter, 78,79,2 overcards, a flush draw, a pair and flush draw or even JJ( for some reason i dont see alot of lags real aggro w/ 99 TT JJ QQ preflop, even though i see them 4 bet/ shove w/ 88-) in his range as well as 67,89,set. I think i like a reraise on the flop to about $12-$14. The BIG stack lags tend to shove light/draw and flat a monster. I think QQ is ahead of the big majority of his range. If he shoves i dont love it, but i am probably willing to go broke on the flop. I am more concerned about him shipping here if he has a monster than on the flop.

I defintely check the turn behind when the K hits as i dont think he bets if he cant beat AK and the lags love the CR. What i would do on river would be card/opponent action dependent.

hg

as for the actual hand

it was such a spazzy line i dont think i could fold because i think like Tim said he bets smaller on the river if he has a K w/ less than an ace kicker, or a pair smaller than Kings, so i think he has a big hand hoping you can pay off w/ AK or rubbish. Given his large river bet size (he wants you to fold or pay off his big hand- he is not making this size bet on thin value hand like scend pair or worse)and the flop raise i lean to rubbish. Why would he check a monster on the turn after he raised flop and got called? Too spazzy.

I think after the FD on the flop and then the 2nd FD on the turn, there is no way he checks the turn w a big hand(set, straight, 2 pair)-except maybe A10d which you are ahead. Checking the turn is fine, call any bet on river unless straight, flush or 10 hits then fold >1/2 pot bets w/o a read.
