How could I have played this differently

Postby IAMINARUTT » Sun Apr 11, 2010 8:11 pm

Was I right to re-raise on the flop? Any other thoughts?

Hero (UTG) ($10.95)
MP ($11.45)
CO ($9.95)
Button ($2.20)
SB ($10)
BB ($15.85)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with 6Image, 6Image
Hero bets $0.40, 3 folds, SB calls $0.35, 1 fold

Flop: ($0.90) 7Image, 8Image, 6Image (2 players)
SB bets $0.80, Hero raises to $2.60, SB calls $1.80

Turn: ($6.10) 2Image (2 players)
SB bets $3.50, Hero raises to $7, SB calls $3.50 (All-In)

River: ($20.10) JImage (2 players, 1 all-in)

Results:
SB had 8Image, 8Image (three of a kind, eights).
Hero had 6Image, 6Image (three of a kind, sixes).
Outcome: SB won $19.15

yes i like the way you played, this basically the same thing as getting all in w kk preeflop
will kk run into AA, yeppers, but most times not.

same thing here, will you run into 77, 88, 9T, even 54 or 59, yeppers
but most times you will have someone w/ 2 pr 78, a pair and a draw, a flush draw, a str8 draw, 2 overs and a gut draw, an over pr etc

the only 2 really bad hands for you are 77 and 88, 666 vs made str8 , you are 1/3 to make a boat
vs the 2 pr/pr/ pr w/ a draw type hands you are a substantial favorite

i like the raise on flop to charge draws
i like the raise on turn to get him all in before a scare card comes for you or he makes his draw
he may not get rest of stack in on river if a scare card hits or misses his draw
this will be the far more common situation tha running into an overset

when you hit an underset you are suppossed to lose a lot
the good news is when they hit an underset you win alot

basically the situation cancels like AA vs KK preflop, the reverse happens just as often, so long run isnt really where $$$$$ is made
but charging draws max to make their hand is a money maker, which is what you were trying to do

just an fyi bad beat story- one of the first sessions i played at 100nl, i was doing well, had about 250 in front of me on one of the tables and got it all in vs another deep stack
i had 999, he had 777, wanna guess the turn card?, yep the case 7- my vision for 5 stack intro to 100nl went wrong and ruined my session and my day

but i would get it in every time in that situation Q97 flop
so dont worry too much about coolers

just another fyi, if it had been a 1 tone flop, i would typically raise the flop, and call the turn if they led again, and bet if they checked
if they have the flush i want to try to hit riverboat, if they have A hi draw and pr they will likely put in in on river anyway or call your bet when they are behind. if they check the river you can bet, hands that beat beat you will rarely check here, but many you beat will check call
if the turn or river made a 4 flush in the example, i would typically call small to reasonable bet size depending on player and my read

hope this helps hg
