NO Limit?

Postby dragon111 » Sat Aug 14, 2010 5:53 am

I was curious looking at all the video's there is no approach to building bankroll playing, Limit ?

(There is a Challenge build bankroll with Limit.* Prior Thread from Killer)

(Amazing got to watch Phil Ivey on Full Tilt, play LIMIT 2,000/4,000 - Watch him start with $40,000 and get it up to $198,000 then crashing it back down to 30,000. Took less then 30 mins or so.)

Hi Dragon,

Since holdem has trended towards no limit in the past few years and most people are now playing no limit, we decided to focus our areas there. That's not to say you can't do well in limit! But the vast majority of members prefer no limit (more exciting and more skill!) so we focus there!

Cheers,

Outstanding Poker is great, but I love Limit too, so I have to be a member of other poker training. And there are a lot of people who play Limit nowadays.

just to share my history

i started playing nl after i too got caught up in the moneymaker wave, but quickly realized i was clueless and switched to limit. I was able to do quite well for about 3 years and got up to the 5/10 games at party poker and 10/20 games at pacific poker as those games were donkeriffic. but by about 4 years after the moneymaker wave i noticed the games got quite a bit less donkeriffic( i am hesitant to say tougher as i am sure any solid limit player would not use the word tough to describe them, but i never thought i was one of the better limit players, just not as horrible as most of the players at these limits and that was good enough to win a lot of money back then) as i think a lot of the noobies decided there new hobby was too expensive ( you can lose a lot of $$$$$ at 5/10 if you dont have a clue) and decided to find other hobbies.

So long story short i went to sng's for a year or so and that led me back to nl games. The reason i play nl now is quite simply it is hugely more profitable since winrates of 10+ big blinds/100 hands are quite common even at the games atta plays (you can check winrates on PTR poker table ratings site) and even higher at the micro stake nl games. However, at limit games win rates of good players are more typically in the 2-4 bb/100 hands, so nl can be way more profitable. Interestingly, many nl microplayers would do better/or lose a lot less if they played limit as their favorite nl mistake of chasing draws is only a tiny error or even an +EV play at limit do to bet size restrictions that price in the drawing hands.

I find nl more fun and more profitable now especially the 6 max games, but i realize that is a personal choice.

I have been getting sick of the mass amount of SUCK out in LIMIT. Hey they are priced in to call, believe me I know. So I have for the past couple days playing the Micro NL .10/.25. And I can say I do enjoy it much more. Yes there are Suck Outs, but not as much because when other is drawing you can make him pay.
And when you have a great hand you are getting paid for it. I had double up twice, one from a great hand, and the other a good read.

I did have one hand that I am not sure of, I think I played it weak. But it also helped me getting paid off when another thought he could get me to fold to his all in Push.
