Mattutaylor's HUSNG challenge (Version 2.0)

Postby Mattutaylor » Mon Mar 21, 2011 6:08 am

Hey guys.

As some of you may remember (in fact it's still stickied atop of this forum!), around this time last year, I set myself a challenge to build a bankroll from a standard sized $70 deposit, and turned it into $2561 and change in no time at all.

Well now it's time for something new and something a little different.

Version 2.0

Last time round, the challenge was about building a bankroll. What we're going to do now, is take the bankroll, and make a good monthly profit from it.

My overall aim, is to make $15k in 1 month, starting today (Mar 21st 2011) finishing on April 21st 2011.

I'm going to be starting this challenge at my regular level, which is the $57.50s on stars. After I make roughly 30 buy ins, (ie. around $1500) I will be moving up and taking shots at the $115s.

This is very aggressive bankroll management, but as long as you are disciplined in your shot taking, it can work. For instance, I will be setting myself a stop loss as 5 buy ins. Meaning that should I lose 5 buy ins at the $115s, I will move back down the $57.50s for a while.

The challenge includes heads up sit n go's (inc. 4 man) and FPP's (Ie. The 235fpp hyper turbo sattelites to the $11 sunday 250k). I usually just play a bunch and then unregister from the tournament leaving me with $T.

I will be tracking the challenge on sharkscope, so whilst chop's are inevitable (when me and another regular, register at the same time, or if we decide to chop at a final table of a 4 man), and also Sharkscope isn't 100% accurate, especially in case of 4 mans, we will be looking for my overall profit from SNGs on sharkscope in this time period to be $15,000+.

Really looking forward to getting this started!

Don't think I've missed anything out, but feel free to ask questions and hope you enjoy this challenge as much as the last!

Day 1

The Journey Begins...

... and I wish it hadn't. What a day. I mean, I was really motivated and ready to go this morning after setting up the new challenge. I started out about $200 up which was good. But then things just went pair shaped.

Now I'm not one to moan about bad beats, but I'm running pretty horribly at the minute. Like seriously horrible. Its super frustrating, cuz I really wanted to get this challenge off to a good start, but I just had to call it a day as I was going nowhere but downhill.

So here are todays stats -

Games played - 74, total profit - -$289.

Ok, its actually less than that because of chops, but remembering we're going off what sharkscope records, I'm reluctantly happy to say that i'm down $289 for the challenge.

Sweet.

Hopefully we can get going tomorrow.

Profit to go - $15,289.

Sucks to get a bad start, but keep at it!

Day 2

The ups and down of being a pro poker player

Well no one can say I'm not putting in volume. Im running like crap. Complete crap. Today I found myself 400 down at one point and managed to end today like $20 up. What a joke! But sharkscope says different because the one chop I made, I lost so it has me as $48 down.

This is so frustrating, I mean I really wanted to get this challenge off to a flying start, but the gods are against me.

I played 85 games today and it is really taking it's toll on me now.

Tomorrow, I am not quitting until I profit and get this challenge back into the positive.

Games played - 85, total profit -$48

Profit to go - $15,337

Day 3

Slowly but surely

Well. We're getting there. First day where sharkscope shows a profit, and I have to double check, but I think today finally gets us into the positive! Ok, not greatly, and I'm no way near on track for my 15k target, but what we have to remember is that when I get to the $115s, profits should rocket (should I run half decent).

Today has been less about volume and more about getting on with a winning day. Add to the fact that for some unknown reason my holdem manager isn't working so at no point was I playing more than 3 tables!

Maybe HEM is an omen?

Not that I'm gonna stop using it. I pretty much rely on the information it gives me to make tough decisions. Weird, for saying 6 months ago, I didn't use the HUD at all, and only recently have I started using it PROPERLY for HUSNGs.

So what does today look like?

Well. Pretty darn good.

Games played -64, Total profit $360.

Profit to go - $14,977

Lol. Theres still a long way to go.

Tough to say really, but I work usually from around 10am til 6pm with frequent breaks, so probably 6-7 hours playing time a day.

Day 4

Small volume and 4 mans

As the title suggests, not played too much today. Had a real good private coaching session that lasted longer than anticipated. But still some decent results.

Started throwing in some 4 mans, now I've got over my run bad, and I did okay...ish. Think had i put in some more volume would've been a really good day, but there just aren't enough hours in a day!

Tomorrow I'm aiming for over $500 profit, if not more.

Games Played - 36, Total Profit - $240.

Profit to go - $14,737

Day 5,6,7 and 8

Sick... literally

Hey guys.

Well first things first, I didnt play friday. Not out of choice either. Woke up early feeling a little rough. Come 2pm I was throwing my guts up. Not been that ill in a long long time! And it wasn't drink induced either!

Played a ton over the weekend though but, again, I'm back to running like shite. I mean, its not looking good for the challenge so I'm having to think things through again.

I think, because of my bad start to the 31 days, I'm gonna have to re-adjust slightly and edit the challenge to become...

20k in a month by any means necessary!

Thats right. If I'm adding different games, then I'm changing my goals. I'll therefore now be including bonuses etc etc.

So, here goes to restarting this challenge, and, well aiming higher!!! Challenge is to make 20k by 29th April 2011.

Money to target - $20,000

Day 1 (again)

Thats what we call a start

So decided to take a break from HU and play some MTT sngs, specifically the $16 18 man, and $12 180 and 45 man sngs.

Pretty bad start. In fact it was horrific, I was nearly 800 down in less than 2 hours! Then started running good. Shipped 2 180 mans with a couple more FT's and some 45 mans too!

Ended up $825 in profit leaving...

Money to go $19,175

A pretty good start! Lets see if I can keep it up.
