Hi Tim, Error and the gang,
My name is Kelley and I just joined yesterday. First I want to thank you guys for putting this site togather and taking the time to invest in it's value. For what you guys do here at this site, it is well worth a month of WOW or some other online gaming that is a sinkhole. Also, if I am able to reach my goals, I definately want to get you guys your props!
My situation is that I have been playing most NL Holdem since 2003 and have had enough success to keep money in my online accounts (PS and UB) for the last year without dipping. From $50 I have had my accounts over 600 twice in the last 2 yrs and am pretty much a rec SnG and tourney player. Early I tried cash rings and would donk off my profits and then not play for long periods. I work for Symantec and work from home so I have the ability to dedicate to making a change for the better and that is why I am here. I attend a 2table (17-19) home game (annual series) with about 13 tourneies from fall to spring ($10 buy-ins+ 2RB). 2008 I was the points leader and championship winner ($360) and 2nd in 2009. I have won a couple of local tournaments $20 buyins (~$360 win each) and have a few $1, $4 and $5 bounty wins on UB (~240ish+bounties). Been to Vegas 4-5 times in last 3 years and break even. (up on the 2-4 limit, down on 1-2NL at Excal). So I have a bit but still call myself a beginner. The reason why is that I have a couple of friends that have been really successful and I am not able to sweat them much. The level of long term success they have is what I am after. I am a player and coach for other sports and enjoy the competetive life style, but I have decided to change my life situation and focus on this because of the potential financial and life style poker has to offer.
I have read most of the articles and have listened to all of the podcasts. I have been watching videos and realize I am not sure where to start. Cash to tourney? I think cash is where I need to be. Full, 6man or HU? So I am not sure where to work on my leaks. Here is what I have done since I signed up.
Short 30mins cash sessions on UB max buyin (0 limps outside BB)
3/31/2010 HOLDEM $0.10/$0.25 NL $7.97
4/1/2010 HOLDEM $0.01/$0.02 NL $0.18
4/1/2010 HOLDEM $0.05/$0.10 NL $1.16

HU 2.2 NL Hold,em on PS
Results 7 matches (5wins/ 2loses)

I have not played any MTT tournaments since signup.
My goal is to replace/surpass my salary. Thoughts? Recommendations?

Sorry for the long post!
Thanks, Kelley

Forgot to include that I am 50/50 W/L with micro double/nothing on PS too. So I am not sure if I should working on SnG HU, 6man, full or cash HU, 6man or full? I ask for several reasons but bet sizing is one weakness of mine and from the videos, the sizing on various streets are different from 6 man cash vs 10 double/none (survival) etc.... and I want to stay with one structure for a bit. Thanks,
Kelley

as far as what to focus on, i suggest the game you like best, if you are going to play alot it can be a grind sometimes so it helps to really be playing what you like. i started on full ring nl 5 years ago, went to limit games for about 3 years, then sng's for about a year, then 6 man nl about a year, recently mixing in 10 man nl w the 6 man nl.

1 question though, you listed 25 nl, and then penny NL games just seemed strange. i suggest pick a game and level you like and put in some time there until you ready to move up to next stake level and so on. As far as making a living, i would start with the attitude of a profit making hobby until you are able to move up to games that have the potential to provide an living income. Playing when you need to win to pay bills is much different than as a relatively pressure free hobby.

Welcome and good luck

Thanks hockeyguy,
That is what I was looking for. I have played various level over the years and even experimented with Omaha and am basically going to kinda "empty" my past baggage because I really didn't know what I was doing at any level. I think I have plan for my "hobby" period going forward and will change up like you mentioned so the grind doesn't get boring. I like the various stages of tourneys and how you have to be ready to adjust but I am going to limit it for a bit as I go through the video archive and sort of "learn" how to play all over again. I will stay within a limit (I am thinking .5/.10 while learning stat software and videos here) It is strange but awesome how one simple thing (like not limping) changes the whole dynamic. Like the 30mins I did earlier at .5/.10 I didn't limp once outside the button and 3bet 3 times and cbet with good sizing while keeping my tight image, played a couple of hands up front (BB) for balance and I didn't have one showdown..... I knew who the solids were and the 2 loose atms (my 3bets) because of you guys videos. Nothing complicated, and I can actually spend my energy working on their hands and not mine. You guys have simplified me dealing with my cards. Anyway, you know all this. thanks. Time for me to put the time in. Cheers
