Some feedback please

OK, here is a thought about moving up. At the micro of all micro stakes... well at the $10 buyins 6 max, it seems that there is actually some very good players like all of us bottom feeders trying to scratch and claw upwards in stakes. Yes there are some fish and donks. Sure they win some of your chips and they lose some to you.

I know you all have watched videos at higher stakes. IE $100 buyins on up. I know that Hockeyguy had transitioned from the micros to somewhat higher. It can be done! But we all know how difficult it really is. Tell me that you have not seen some really outstanding players at the micros! They are there! They study and practice just like you and I.

Now look at the vids here with Atta, Ryan or whoever. Slightly higher stakes right? Do you see bad players? Yes. Do you see good ones? Of Course.

So the 1st question is..... Would you realize more success exploiting players at the $100 or $200 buyins or the $10 buyins? Obvious answer I know. So.... the 2nd question is, would it be a bad idea to boost your bankroll weekly by just adding the minimum deposit (whatever it is) just to build up your roll? Assuming that you have not had any other need to make a deposit.

IMO if you have learned anything here at all, it certainly must be how to exploit the bad players. When I "sneak" jump up in stakes, I find it fairly easy to spot what's what. However, I do understand the pitfalls of Bankroll management, so I stay grinding it out at the micros.

My plan is to add alittle artificially when I can.. What say you?

its your money if you want to help build up your bankroll with your own cash so you can play in higher stakes sooner, then there can be nothin wrong with it as long as your beating the games your at.

I totally agree with this statement. It is frustrating to be stuck at the micros. BUT remember the part which says "As long as you are beating your present stake level". I have bounced back and forth from a $700.00 to $600.00 bankroll for some time now. I am sure if I were playing higher stakes I would probably be reloading. But then again I am a bankroll nit. LOL.

if you are beating the level you are at a good rate it doesnt take too long to build the bankroll up so you can play at the next level up, it will j ust depend how many hours you can put in each day/week/month. while i dont have a problem with adding/padding the bankroll to allow play st the next level. I think you do risk losing the added money at the next level if your play isnt good enough to be at the next level. Just think about all the horrible players that have shown up in the higher stake videos, i assume they simply have better paying day jobs than the bad players at the micros so they are willing to add/pad their BR to keep playing in games they have no chance to beat or even come close to breaking even at

I would strongly advise against adding artificially to your bankroll. Like hockeyguy said, if you are a winning player, it shouldn't take that long to build up your roll organically so that you have 15-20 buyins for the next level.

In terms of your other note - yes there are a good and bad players at each level. However, while the bad players exist at all levels (to a lesser frequency as you move up), the good players start getting much better and will chew you up if you can't compete with them. So even if you win from time to time against the bad players, the good ones will be stomping all over you and making it -EV to play in the game. I have always made a point of feeling like I have a strong edge against all "regulars" of each level before I move up, so that I'm confident that I can beat anyone who's playing the game, and hence have a strong edge regardless of who's at the table.

Good questions Jim! Keep on grinding and learning and the results will follow!

Cheers,

Thanks guys! You just can't beat logic. I'll keep grinding at it and not violate anymore bankroll rules! I guess I was just wanting to be the player that I'm not quite ready to be yet :) watching the vids at the higher stakes and thinking ahead of your plays and saying "I would have done that!" It makes ya want to shoot for a little more I guess.

But Now I realize that I couldn't play that way without a schooled bankroll to get me by the right way. Thanks again!

It comes down to confidence and aggression. If you randomly sit at a higher stakes that you're not comfortable with, you'll likely play as "scared money" against the regulars, even if there are some weak players at the table. If you've been dominating your current stakes for a while, made a bunch of money, and feel very confident in your game, you'll be itching to take on some tougher opponents at the higher levels to test yourself, and you'll be confident that you have the bankroll to handle the swings.

Just reading johanw's blog is a great example of confidence and how it benefits your game. He's been doing very well on a strict bankroll management plan and it seems to be working for him as he moves up stakes.

Keep working on your game, be patient, and the results will come!
