Video 76 question

Postby Matrix Ace » Sat Nov 21, 2009 12:30 pm

Hi El Wayneo. At the 50 blind level on this video you open raised w/QJx on the button. The BB called and the Q hit the flop. He bet and you just called. He bet the turn and you called. He checked the river and you bet and he folded. You were explaining about something else at the time and didn't comment anything about this hand, but I'm wondering why you just called?
Thanks!

hey there

can u tell me the board texture ?

but as a general rull of thumb... with a hand like Qj i not gonna be looking or creating spots to play for my stack... even if i hit top pair..

now.. this is where top pair has being over valued by alot of sng players... i admit sometimes i click call mindlessly but .. generally speaking .. even if u have top pair on a fairly safe board.. its still not that much of a hand... when u look at it by "actual strength value" soo.. u should always think about villians hand ranges... and this will help u determine how u should play your own hand.. but post me the board texture and we can further explain this hand i think...

ohh i forgot to mention generally when u dont know what your opponets hand strength is at ... calling in position is yet SAFE play and also alllows u alot more options and info on later streets.... but i tihnk i probably just called cause i prefer not to play for stack at that blind level... plus pot control by calling and no raising.....

just think about it though... if i did re pop him .. and he shoved... im really stuck... on whether i should fold ... but usually against that shove.... your QJ shrink to being the 2nd best hand... or marginal favourite against a good draw.....

The flop was Q T 3 rags...turn a 7 w/a flush draw and the river a 7, no flush possible.
I see your point about pot control..and playing conservatively.
I was winning 50% of these tourneys, and after your video I've tightened up and now win two thirds...very cool...thanks!
They are a good opportunity for me to work on my discipline.
