Video 27 Villain Lines

Postby seanint » Sat Nov 29, 2008 12:07 pm

Hi Tim,

At about 20 mins in this video, you had AJ on a A-8-J flop and got checkraised. About the only hand he could likely have was 88, if he was not making a move that is. This being 400 NL, I guess that the players don't trap as much as they do at Micro Limits ? Is that a common line in Micros ? Slow Playing sets ?
Would you have played that 2 pair facing a check raise the same in a mico limit ?

Hi Sean,

I went through video 27 and didn't see that spot - but I'll comment on that type of hand anyway.

When I flop top-two pair on an AJ8 board and get check-raised, I'm happy to get all the money in, at any stakes. There are just too few hands that beat us (88) and too many hands that we're ahead of - A8/AK/AQ/J8, maybe even any A-x hand, as well as a ton of drawing hands such as T9/KQ/QT, not to mention any flush draws, and then complete bluffs. It would be way too weak to give your opponent for 1 very unlikely hand (88).

Yes, some players will trap here with 88... it probably happens more often at micro stakes as players at micros are obsessed with slow-playing any strong hand (which is usually not the most profitable play, especially on an AJ8 board where you can represent so many draws and get the money in versus a lot of bare Aces).
